A Pomodoro timer you use with friends
StudyDork is a free iPhone study app with a study timer and a Pomodoro timer built in, so you can focus in short blocks, block distracting apps and study alongside friends.
Use a study timer or Pomodoro sessions, block distracting apps and track your hours by subject. Whether you're preparing for HSC, VCE, university exams or homework, make each session count.
Study timer or Pomodoro: two ways to run a session
A study timer is one continuous block of focus. In StudyDork you pick a length from 15 minutes up to 8 hours, start it and work until it ends.
A Pomodoro session splits the same time into focus blocks with short breaks in between. The idea is simple: work hard for a set time, rest for a few minutes, then go again. Many students find it easier to start a 20 minute block than a two hour one.
Both modes live on the Focus tab. You switch between them from the same screen, and both earn XP, count towards your streak and log time against the subject you picked.
How the Pomodoro timer works in StudyDork
On the free plan, Pomodoro runs 20 minute focus blocks with 5 minute breaks. A free Pomodoro session lasts one hour, which is three focus blocks.
StudyDork Pro unlocks the other splits and lets you build your own:
- Short: 15 minutes of focus, 5 minutes of break
- Focus: 20 minutes of focus, 5 minutes of break
- Classic: 25 minutes of focus, 5 minutes of break
- Deep: 50 minutes of focus, 10 minutes of break
- Custom: focus blocks from 10 to 50 minutes and breaks from 5 to 50 minutes
Long breaks and session length
After every fourth focus block you get a long break, three times the length of a short one. With the Classic split that means a 15 minute break after four 25 minute blocks.
With Pro you choose how much total focus time a Pomodoro session holds, from 30 minutes up to 4 hours. StudyDork works out the blocks and breaks for you.
It keeps running when your phone is locked
You don't need to keep StudyDork open. On iPhone the Pomodoro schedule is worked out ahead of time, so focus blocks and breaks switch over even while the app is closed.
A Live Activity on the Lock Screen shows whether you're in a focus block or a break and how long is left.
Block apps during focus, track hours by subject
Any session can block the apps you choose, such as Instagram or TikTok, until it ends. Sessions with apps blocked earn 30% more XP.
You can pick a subject before you start. The time you focus is logged against it, and with StudyDork Pro, Subject Stats show how many hours went into each class.
When you want company, you can study with your clan in a shared room, with everyone's characters at their desks while they focus.
